Who is Pacsun?

Pacific Sunwear of California, LLC, is a leading retailer in America delivering fashion for men and women from emerging brands with a California lifestyle element. PacSun has been inspired by the youth culture in Los Angeles since it was founded 34 years ago. PacSun sells relevant branded and propriety apparel, accessories and footwear based on the LA style, aimed at teens and young adults. Coveted brands including PacSun Denim, Kendall & Kylie, FOG – Fear of God, adidas, Champion, LA Hearts, Calvin Klein, Nike SB, Vans, Tommy Hilfiger, Me to We, Diamond Supply Co., Hurley, and more.

What was the Issue?

Customer needs have evolved, they now expect more engaging and personalised shopping experiences. Using technology, especially mobile, to adapt to the modern customer is now essential.

As explained by Eugene Lai, Director of Digital of PacSun, “Mobile plays an important role in consumers’ everyday lives, and we know that translates to when and where they are shopping.”

Therefore to keep ahead of the competition, PacSun knew that they needed to deliver an elevated shopping experience for their customers using a retail app. The PacSun mobile app needed to offer a wide range of services to give the best experience for their customers whilst simultaneously delivering a high return on investment.

What was the Solution?

In 2017 PacSun looked to PredictSpring, a mobile commerce leader, to develop their retail mobile app. When putting together PacSun’s app, PredictSpring took inspiration from two of the most popular internet sites: Instagram and Uber. “Instagram is all about inspiration,” Mangtani, Found & CEO of PredictSpring said. “It is rich media. Notable features from the new mobile app experience include and Instagram Shop-the-Look, loyalty integration, where members of PacSun’s loyalty community can easily view and manage their myGSOM REWARDS points and activity. The app also offers users access to wishlists and a store locator, review order history and incorporates push and geo-fenced notifications to keep customers engaged and drive purchases via the app and in-store.

What were the Results?

PacSun has already seen extra sales and increased downloads from the new app, said Eugene Lai, director of digital for PacSun. “Since partnering with PredictSpring, PacSun has increased year-over-year app revenue by 45.8% between July 2016 vs July 2017, and we have enhanced our app experience to engage with our customers in a meaningful way,” he said in a statement.

The integration of PredictSpring with Salesforce Commerce Cloud allowed for the rapid go-to-market of the PacSun mobile app – a factor that proved critical to the app’s immediate success. The PacSun mobile app now has around 150,000 downloads per month, with a 4.7 rating on the Apple App store and over 13,000 reviews.
